Camouflage Confusion

The camouflage print is always in fashion like a Bretton stripe or leopard print. Each season it is there, sometimes in the background as a part of 'the core collection' or other times it is kind of rediscovered and has it's own moment. This summer, for ladies I have seen the camouflage relaxed jacket a lot, it seems to be everywhere. It is relaxed, faded and often styled with a summer dress. An alternative, if you like to a denim jacket or a lighter than a leather biker jacket.

However... as much as I like this look on other people, I cannot put my finger on why I have never been inclined to embrace this look or even to try it on in a shop. In terms of style I am moderately girly and it is not because of the army/ masculine connotations that puts me off this look. The colours aren't a factor in deterring me either - I am more likely to wear greens, greys and browns over shades of pink any day.

I have read an article where a fashion editor likes to dress down a girly, lacy dress with a camouflage jacket and then put on some red lip stick. I admit if I was to attempt the camouflage print, this seems like a naturally winning formula. Similar to my article on leopard print I think there are undoubtedly awful versions and contexts of the camouflage print which give it a bad reputation/initial perception, for instance tight little mini skirts and cropped tops... or combat trousers, surely they won't ever come back into mainstream fashion will they!? Possibly because at University I saw the camouflage print often used in a tacky concept for 'army night' fancy dress, complete with khaki face paint which seems so inauthentic.

I swiped the above trend board off pinterest, I feel that it depicts camouflage nicely. The camouflage print is frequently manipulated and simplified - the scale increased or decreased and fewer colours used which almost turns it into a generic animal print. Again to be broad I have seen versions of this that I think work well and other versions that I believe are less successful. Additionally I have versions seen where the designer has replaced on of the main colours with a new contrast colour like pink, which has an immediate impact on the design. In conclusion I am still confused as to why I can't get my head properly around camouflage print and the potential it has, I guess that there are plenty of alternatives out there that I have more of a natural inclination to. One day I might surprise myself.
