Spring Colours vs Autumn Colours

Seasonal colours are so powerful, particularly Spring and Autumn. In the Summer there are some beautiful flowers and plants in bloom but I am going to say that Spring seems some how more vibrant and fresh after months of greyness and darkness. In April the Rapeseed turns fields on the landscape yellow, in May the world turns pink with spectucular blossom on the trees.

I admit I am one of those people who can't help taking photos of blossom in spring, why? For many reasons; obviously it is so pretty and the varieties of colours of blossom, in the different shades of pink and white. It is also a sign that spring is well and truly here, longer days and warmer weather. The colours in the photos create an excellent palette, the gentle sky blue, the left green, the soft shade of pink and the brown branches.

In contrast to the fresh, delicate yet vibrant spring colours, I would describe autumn colours as richer, warmer with a more intense vibrancy. At University I vividly remember a girl saying her project theme was Autumn because it was her favourite season, and I am thinking 'no, everything is brown and dying in the autumn'. Then she pulled out some brilliant dried leaves in fantastic shades of red. I quickly changed my mind and started to look more closely at the autumn beauty.

The 'reddy-pinky' transitional colouring is exquisite, yet the photograph really doesn't do the colours justice and show their impact. I was actually driving through a village, and spotted those leaves growing up someone's house. I parked the car and shamelessly went up the the house and took a photograph on my phone, hence the average quality of the image.

This photo shows the yellowing about to turn brown leaves curling and dropping from the trees. On first impressions the palette here looks similar to the Rapeseed field palette. However the yellow is richer and browner, the way the light is shining through the leaves gives them a brightened illuminated representation in this image.

Which is your favourite colours Spring, Summer, Autumn? Am I being neglectful in not giving winter frosty shades a mention? Maybe during the winter months I will feel more inspired...
